If you're as tough, dependable and efficient as the compressors we make, then you're the right fit for Quincy Compressor. We are currently seeking a Material Planner to join our team!  This position will be based out of our Corporate Office located in Bay Minette, AL.


Basic Function

The Planner is responsible for buying all assigned material. Responsible for monitoring and releasing purchase orders in accordance with the production schedule and/or material replinishment system.  In addition to managing inventory, will be responsible for communicationg with suppliers and coordinating with purchasing department to maintain supply chain. International supply chain, and long lead time planning are key to this function.

Nature & Scope

This position reports to the Materials Manager.  The position of Planner requires reliability, responsibility, initiative, and skill in verbal and written communication.  Must be able to work in a team environment, with continuous improvement and able to handle multiple tasks. .

Principle Duties

  • Plan material for purchase. Process purchase orders and change orders with accuracy and proper authorization.  Track deliveries, and expedite as necessary in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain accurate records including system information (stock levels, lead times, etc.) in a timely manner.
  • Review and process all invoice discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Review and process all supplier rejects in a timely manner.
  • Communicates effectively with suppliers so as to ensure compliance with Quincy Compressor Division’s Quality and Mission Statement.
  • Generate, review, and process E & O forms in a timely manner.
  • Effectively communicates with internal and external personnel in order to achieve daily build rates and on-time customer shipments.
  • Actively participates in lean events.
  • Implement and maintain lean processes such as MRP minimum balances and call off parts, Automated Replenishment Programs, Full Service Supply programs.
  • Assist with Physical Inventory and/or the Cycle Count Program.
  • Develop and implement reduction processes.
  • Develop and implement systems to achieve 98% on-time deliveries of purchased items.
  • Conduct business activities within the Code of Ethics
  • Accepts and performs any other duties as assigned.

The Planning role interfaces with the following:

  • Method Engineer, with regard to the phase in and phase out of finished products and the implementation of pilot batches and/or Design Notification/BOM changes
  • Production Scheduler, for the production planning based on incoming materials and for coordination of production start schedule
  • Internal/External Suppliers/Service Providers, to manage priorities and production peaks
  • Quality, for the administration of any non-compliance in production
  • Logistics, coordinate the logistics of loading materials according to their shipment priority
  • Inventory Control, to ensure that the rotation of inventory is conducted accurately

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain or equivalent experience preferred.
  • One to three years of experience in a purchasing/buyer role.
  • Strong knowledge in purchasing, delivery methods, and the global marketplace.
  • Must be reliable, possess strong initiative, and have excellent organization, interpersonal, verbal and written communication, good document control with attention to detail.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.

Supervisory Responsibility:
• None.

Physical Demands:
• Required to be able to move about the facility frequently (standing, walking).

Personal Protective Equipment:
• While on shop floor, must wear safety glasses and steel toed shoes at all times.

Work Environment:
• Mainly a plant environment with some office exposure.
